The Spanish Connection

by Lesley Durston

Always keen to stretch the boundaries for their students, staff from Hesley Village and College were invited to view the facilities at a centre for people with autism in Spain.

Sue Ekins and education and vocational manager Richard Webster spent a couple of days at the Mas Casadevall Foundation in Barcelona - and came back brimming with activity ideas for their own students.
The foundation was set up by parents because there was nowhere to send their children once they reached the age of 18.

“The idea was to share ideas and we took much back with us,” said Sue, who toured their craft workshops and even had lunch in the Foundation’s own restaurant, staffed by the students.

In addition, Sue was invited to sign the Librode Honor (the book of honour) in the town of Masa Casadevall - putting her signature after the King of Catalan!
