It’s
a time of change for the Webmag. Our host organisation, Caring for
Children, may well be wound up in September. We expect the Webmag
to carry on seamlessly despite the sad news. Indeed, we are hoping
to appoint an additional Editor this month.
Professor
Ewan Anderson’s Log and an item on CfC’s last meeting
raise the issue about FICE’s future in England and Wales. If
CfC is wound up, who will link with FICE in England and Wales? If
you’re interested in doing something about it, now is the time
to speak up.
We
have a new column, looking at the care of young children. This article,
by Beverley Smith, focuses on the impact of nursery education on literacy.
Smacking
has been in the news, and we have an article and a Cuttings item on
the subject.
There
is the second part of Donna’s story, Gus Greene’s recollections
of training and the characters he met, a Hesley archaeological project,
Keith White’s piece on important reading about children, and
a review of a fascinating book about Thomas Coram, an eighteenth century
pioneer in child care.
Cuttings
as usual has a mixed bag, including Supernanny, downloading porn,
smacking, poverty and chastity. We hope there’s something of
interest for you.
