JULY 2004

CHILDCARE FOR ALL
Supporting Families, Regenerating Communities

Thursday 15th July 2004

Barbican Centre, London EC2
Childcare is central to the economy of a community, providing direct employment for some people and enabling others to return to work and training. It is also a means by which some social inequalities – such as poverty and lack of mobility – can be tackled. Childcare can also play a key role in neighbourhood renewal.

This conference will discuss long-term strategies for developing childcare and related neighbourhood renewal initiatives, highlighting latest Government initiatives across both these sectors and examples of best practice at local level. The conference will also consider practical ways of developing and sustaining accessible and affordable childcare in disadvantaged areas as well as targeting the often overlooked pockets of poverty in the more prosperous regions.

Keynote Speaker:
Naomi Eisenstadt
Director, Sure Start Unit, Department for Education and Skills
