This
item was sent to us by EducationCity.com who claim to be the world's
leading online educational resource used by teachers in their
lessons and parents to support their child's learning at home.
There's
been massive interest in EducationCity.com from schools across
Aberdeen following the launch of a working partnership between
the City's Education Department and EducationCity.com.
One
quarter of the City's sixty-five primary and special schools now
subscribe to EducationCity.com and a further two-thirds are currently
trialling it. The City's Education Department is seeking to encourage
all teachers to implement ICT in their classrooms by using exemplary
products.
Lilian
Lindsay from the ICT development unit explains: "This initiative
allows us to do two things at the same time, encourage inexperienced
computer using staff to make significant moves to implement ICT
in their classroom, and also get them using a quality product
which is tailored to the Scottish curriculum guidelines."
"One
of the benefits of using EducationCity.com is that it gives a
'sense of direction' to teachers. Its activities are structured
to link to specific learning objectives and by their very nature
are therefore progressive."
"We're
confident that when teachers see the impact of ICT on their children,
how products such as EducationCity.com engage and enthuse them,
then they in turn will become more encouraged to go further with
their implementation of ICT across other areas of the curriculum."
"Another
of the benefits of using EducationCity.com, an online product
as opposed to a CD based product, is the way it stores each child's
actions and performance. It's so vital for teachers to be able
to track the progress of each child and see either where they
need additional help or whether they need to progress to other
learning objectives."
