The
Scottish Institute for Residential Child Care
SIRCC
was established in 2000 with the aim of ensuring ‘that residential
child care staff throughout Scotland have access to the skills
and knowledge that they required to meet the needs of the children
in their care’.
SIRCC works in partnership with The University of Strathclyde,
Robert Gordon’s University, Langside College, the advocacy
organisation ‘Who Cares? Scotland’ and Save the Children.
They deliver HNC courses to complement residential child care
career pathways at BA, MA or MSc level qualifications.
Together, their different organisational cultures and their collaborative
ways of working ensure a varied approach to developing a professionally
qualified workforce.
SIRCC has a specialist library and is also involved in research,
policy and practice development, consultancy, conferences and
various publications such practice guidelines, a journal and newsletters
