HELP!

We have received a number of emails from around the world asking for help. Some are from children and young people in difficulty, asking for advice. Some are from adults who face problems concerning children. Some are from organisations needing help with funding new projects.

Caring for Children (CfC), which is responsible for the webmag, is a professional organisation and does not provide aid for individuals or organisations or direct services for children and young people. CfC does, however, wish to be of assistance where possible. The following is its policy concerning the provision of help through the webmag :

Wherever possible, the webmag will provide help for children and young people or those concerned about meeting the needs of children and young people by publishing requests for assistance and by providing responses, within the limits laid down below.

CfC does not have sufficient resources to help individuals or organisations seeking financial help, but is prepared to publish requests for finance. This will enable those seeking publicity for their projects to reach not only the current readership of the webmag, but also future readers through access to back issues. It will also be possible to download publicity material from the webmag.

The webmag does not have the staffing to provide expert advice for readers facing problems. Requests for help have come from many countries, and we cannot possibly know all the systems and organisations which may be of help. Furthermore, many problems faced by individuals are complex and need detailed help, probably face to face. Where magazine staff can give advice or offer links with agencies which can help, we will do so, but in other cases, the requests for help will be published in the hope that other readers may be able to assist.

Items which are published will be edited :

to ensure that the English is clear and of good quality
to ensure that the author cannot be identified or contacted directly where it is possible that identification may leave him/her or other people vulnerable
where it appears that a person or organisation may be libelled
where we believe that the contents are untrue or misleading.

CfC is aware that some requests for help may be spoofs or fabrications. All requests will be taken at face value and responses will be made on the assumption that requests have been made in good faith.

CfC reserves the right :

to decline to publish material
to decline to enter into prolonged correspondence.

If funding becomes available to provide an improved level of help or if other circumstances change, this policy will be reviewed.
