Caring for Children

Welcome from Keith White, Chair of CfC

It’s a great pleasure to welcome you to the first edition of the new Children Webmag, now that it has been relaunched by Caring for Children. Until now CfC has been a partner in the running of the webmag: now it has taken over full responsibility for it. CfC is a professional organization of people working with children and young people, the England and Wales representative of FICE.

Quality

We are committed to quality care for children in whatever setting, and are seeking to build a movement that will challenge existing institutions and ideologies that prevent the very best for those children. Because we are not funded by any government we can speak openly and radically on behalf of children and young people, and their carers. Links through FICE mean that CfC is far from parochial, and much that we stand for is informed by good policy and practice in different parts of the world.

In order to achieve our primary objective we need a vehicle for communicating the experiences, views and aspirations of professional carers, and we believe that Children Webmag is exactly the right vehicle for this purpose. We will do all we can to ensure that it is a quality product both in terms of design and content.

To achieve this we have set up a Web Operations Team to oversee every aspect of the running of the journal. This team is experienced, but eager to learn from those who use the webmag. The previous Webmag was edited by David Lane, and produced by Bill Stevenson, as many readers will know. I am delighted that they will continue to bring their formidable expertise, knowledge and skills to this new venture.

Growing a Movement

It is the hope of CfC that Children Webmag will not only provide reliable information and comment from around the world, but also be the means of creating a movement for change. We are grateful for the support of the Hesley Foundation and SET in providing financial backing for the next few months, and believe that this will be seed corn in a growing organization and movement. If you want to be part of that movement and involved in this pioneering venture, details of how you can do this are given in the section of CfC.

Join Us

Together we are determined to create a vehicle for change that will improve the quality of life for children and young people in non-familial care worldwide. As the leader of this Web Operations Team I invite you to share with us your comments and ideas. We seek to be responsive to the readers. And on behalf of the Council of CfC, I invite you to join us in our drive for quality.
