“When he was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy my husband and I were in the depths of despair, trying to get over the fact that we had a disabled son, wondering why and so on. Then we found out about Conduction Education through a friend and came along to parent and child sessions at the National Institute in Birmingham. After a just a few months I had a new outlook on life and changed my attitude”

The Foundation for Conductive Education has announced that, thanks to the support of staff from insurance giant Zurich, they are able to offer their innovative Parent & Child programme for cerebral palsy and other movement disabilities free in Gloucester and surrounding areas in 2005.

“Attending the Parent & Child sessions has helped both me and my daughter tremendously. We both now have purposeful activities to do – even having fun potty training!”

If you have or work with a young child under three who has difficulty with the basic development milestones of childhood, such as Interacting with others, Sitting, Standing, Walking, Communicating, Dressing and Feeding, then the Foundation’s experienced and qualified Parent & Child Conductors can help by providing practical advice and positive support on how to unlock the child’s potential.

“After our first week of Conductive Education, the nursery nurse asked me what I had done to him. They said ‘he’s so much more lively, confident and alert – he’s like a different boy.”

It is not too late for parents/carers in the Gloucester and surrounding areas to apply to attend this free and convenient service which will run from April 2005 at the James Hopkins Trust Centre in Gloucester.

“For us the social side has been invaluable, we have received a lot of advice, support and comfort from other parents and instead of reading about similar children to our son we have been able to see them with our own eyes.”

The Zurich First Steps - Parent & Child service aims to provide a comprehensive early intervention appropriate to the age, ability and special needs of each individual child, which leads to the development of motor, social and cognitive/learning skills.
