Do you work with a group of young people who have made a difference
to their community? If so, then now’s the chance to get
them some recognition with the Philip Lawrence Awards 2005.
The
Philip Lawrence Awards recognise outstanding contributions by
groups of young people aged 11-20 in their local community. The
inspiration for the awards was head teacher Philip Lawrence, murdered
as he intervened to save a pupil being attacked outside his school
ten years ago.
As
nominations were launched for the Philip Lawrence Awards 2005,
a series of events and activities were unveiled to mark this 10th
anniversary. Past winners will come together, united in their
support of a summer conference and young people's weekend in early
autumn, with a special reunion in December to celebrate the success
of the 2005 winners.
Frances
Lawrence, founder of the Philip Lawrence Awards said: "I
am delighted to welcome nominations for what is a poignant and
significant milestone for the Awards. Philip believed that young
people are capable of great acts of thoughtfulness, generosity
and vision. Ten years on, the commitment, drive and talent of
young people demonstrated in the Awards bear testament to Philip's
beliefs. Their unity and friendship provide hope and inspiration
to us all."
The
Awards scheme is the largest of its kind promoting the collective
actions of young people and projects supported by schools to counter
crime, violence, bullying and discrimination, and rewarding outstanding
citizenship. Winning groups will receive cash awards of £1000
to invest in developing their Award-winning activity.
