For the last fifteen years, the York Group has met to consider aspects of residential services for children. It is not a large group, but it includes representatives of all types of residential care and education for children and young people. Attendance is usually by invitation.

Last year, the York Group looked at the significance of the size of groups of children and young people in residential settings. (See the Webmag, December 2002.) This year the subject for consideration is the length of time which children and young people spend living away from home in groups. Speakers representative of boarding schools, special schools, psychiatric units, sixth form colleges and secure accommodation will present papers and the afternoon will be spent in discussion groups identifying generic concepts and examining the potential for the transfer of good practice.

There are still some places available. If you would like details please email Rosie Baillon at: rosie@baillon.freeserve.co.uk
