Child Care 2004: progress through good practice

This conference brings together practitioners from local authority, private and voluntary, care, education and health settings to share in innovative best practice.
The conference will mark the development of the Children’s Residential Network at local, regional and national levels, and points the way towards having a national centre for Residential Child Care. The findings of two major reports will be launched:

• Staff morale, qualifications and retention – England, Scotland, Wales and IrelandThis conference aims to improve residential child-care by:
• Being a rich resource to providers of good practice.
• Everyone attending getting practical ideas and making contacts that will support the progress of improving residential child care everywhere.Speakers will include perspectives from:

• Commission for Social Care Inspection
• Children’s Residential Network
• Young People
• Local authority, private and voluntary providersThere will be a comprehensive range of small seminars from the list of current concerns:
Missing from care; Behaviour Management; Monitoring; Medications; Healthy Care; Training; Education of LAC; Black and Minority Ethnic children and Residential Child Care; Physical Interventions; Developing a placement strategy across providers; Advocacy and complaints; Transitional planning
A wide range of displays and information from all aspects of Social Care will be available.

This conference is aimed at everyone involved with residential child care across all sectors: Residential workers and managers in Statutory, Private and Voluntary settings; Care, Health and Education providers; Children’s Homes, Residential Special Schools, CSCI Inspectors, Local Authority Commissioners/Service managers, researchers, social workers, placement officers, Primary Care Trusts, Children’s Trusts, Trainers.

Volunteering England
Russell Commission Consultation Events on Youth Action and Engagement
The Russell Commission invites youth volunteering groups and community groups to join one of its consultation events on youth action and engagement. The nine regional events, hosted by Volunteering England, are an opportunity to share views and opinions and feed into a new national framework to increase the level of youth volunteering and civic service by young people.
The events, which run from 10am until 3pm are being held as follows:

“Residential Child Care - Building Resilience for Life”

Novotel, WolverhamptonSocial Care Association is delighted to be presenting the third annual seminar dedicated to the work of staff and managers in residential child care with public, private and voluntary organisations.
This year, we are pursuing the theme of ‘Building Resilience for Life’ in recognition of the need for workers to focus beyond their time with young people in the way they work and what they do. This event is a must for those devoted to best practice in the residential care of young people.
