A real mixed bag this month.
There’s
the light stuff, such as the test of suitability for parenthood we’ve
lifted from the internet, and a few of the items in News Views.
Then
there are a number of pieces addressing serious issues, such as
- Keith White’s on the positive changes which can be effected
for individuals in residential care,
- Chris Durkin’s discussion of the impact of loss, and
- Vibeke Lasson’s concern about the impact of legislation on
work with children, - as well as the Editorial on the danger of diverging
opportunities for children.
There
are a lot of pieces about child care and good practice.
- Daniel Jones writes about the importance of meeting the needs of
staff,
- there’s a piece from Northamptonshire about giving looked
after children the opportunity to read,
- there’s advice on restructuring services,
- an item about a new system of communication called Signalong,
- an early years article about the significance of routine for little
children, and
- a piece from Scotland about moving to work with children with disabilities.
To
round up the mixture, there’s
- the ongoing In Care column, this time describing life in an assessment
centre,
- a variety of items in News Views , including achieving quality in
care and education, alcohol, accidents, advertising, adoption, whistling,
young offenders and South Africa, and
- a couple of book reviews on adoption and ageism.
