Extrafamilial care

LAITURI-project

¨      Quality assesment and auditing in extrafamiliar care. Development of models and criteria for independent evaluation of servic units. Creation of a multiprofessional group of experts to provide quality assesment of services. Four-year project.

Child sexual abuse and family violence

Multicultural issues in child welfare

HARAVA-project

¨      Development of regional (povincial) structures and cooperation and management models for the provision of psychosocial services with a common value base. A five-year partnership project with child welfare NGOs and the public sector (local authorities).

VARPU-project

¨      Early intervention as a means of prevention of exclusion of children and young people. Development of professional working methods in child welfare  as well as access o services. A five-year joint project with several Finnish NGOs and the Ministry for Social Welfare and Health.

Advocacy, Publicing and Lobbying

¨      Child’s Good Life 2015. Developing visions and strategies for child welfare.

¨      Co-operation in international Global Movement for Children; Say yes to Children. People were activated to sign an appeal for better future of the Children in the world

¨      Participation in campaign Horse in Traffic. Publicity in the media for young horseriders

¨      Advertising campaign in cooperation with some other child welfare organisations in a national dailynewspaper Helsingin Sanomat. Campaign was called ”Good news each day”

¨      Preparing for UN’s special assembly for children. CUCW was active in the preparating committee drafting Finland’s statement. the Assembly was cancelled because of the terror attack in New York; it will be held in May 2002.

¨      Childrens’ city  –project in co-operation with the Finnish juvenile organisations. The project was partly preparation for UN Special Assembly. The summarize of childrens’ visions was presented to the president of Finland Tarja Halonen

¨      A visit  to SOS Childrens’ Village Tapiola and Juvenile home Lystimäki was organized fof Lapsen puolesta –group (For Children-group) which consists of the Finnish MPs.

¨      Second edition from the book Childrens specialcare and –teaching

¨      CUCW’s new www-pages: www.lskl.fi

¨      Partcipating in creating www-pages called www. apua.info. CUCW is coordinating the preparation of the pages from children and families and CUCW has also taken part in creating Web-pages on domestic violence.

¨      Statements, comments and lobbying on many different issues in child welfare

¨      Federal council meeting in Pestalozzi, Switzerland (February 21-24)

¨      Federal council and Day Seminar in Bucharest, Romania (October 9-14)

 

Education and training

¨      The 9th National Conference on Extrafamiliar care August 20.-22. in Helsinki in co-operation with cities of Helsinki, Espoo and Vantaa. 450 participants in the Conference and 200 participants in the Day of Directors attached to it.

¨      CUCW was organising EFCW’s congress: Education – the Right and Priviledge of a child in Tallinn

¨      Children at Risk in the Baltic Sea  -seminar in Tallinn

¨      Participating in planningIFCO conference: Living in a home. Feeling at Home. Conference will be in Tampere in August 2002

¨      Visitors from the Netherlands discussing about professional foster homes and quality in extrafamialiar care

¨      Visitors from Germany AGJ, exchange of experiences and knowledge of quality in extrafamiliar care

¨      PEP exchange student from Germany for 2 months. German Regina Weissenstein did visit also CUCW in August 11.

 

 

Information for members and extrafamiliar care units

 

FICE-Finland informs of its activities mainly trough CUCW’s periodical Lapsen Maailma (the Child’s World) and information letters. All member organisations get Lapsen Maailma as members’ benefit and in practice all residental homes are its subscribers. Lapsen Maailma appears 12 times a year. Newsletters are sent when needed; that is 2-4 times a year.
